Susan's VisitMy friend, Susan, visited last week to get away from the winter chill of NYC. She has been my most faithful visitor ever since I moved to the LA area, visiting at least once a year. I met Susan when she was studying at the University of Chicago.
I must say that Erik and I were pretty exhausted by the time she left. We did a lot during the six days she was here. We went to
the Getty and took the architectural tour given by a french docent. We went to Laguna Beach twice and Susan took her very first surfing lesson. I was envious but didn't want to risk drowning in the ocean since I still don't know how to swim. I found the
Soul Surfing School online. They charge $125 for two hours of private lesson and equipment. They even offer five day surf camps in San Diego. Susan had a blast and is now hooked on surfing. We even watched my
Endless Summer dvd that night and Susan said she hasn't laughed that hard in a long time.
We tried couple of restaurants that Susan said Gwyneth Paltrow recommended. One was
Katsu-ya in Studio City. They require reservations for lunch and dinner and have valet parking so we expected it to be quite pricey and decided to try their lunch. The sushi lunch special was a steal at only $8.95!!! It included 8 pieces of sushi, 4 california rolls, and a side of tempura, udon, etc. Erik noticed right away that everything was fresh and not frozen. No wonder this place is so popular. We also went to
M Cafe de Chaya for dessert. It's a macrobiotic restaurant. I tried the green tea truffle which were divine. This place was packed and Susan even sited a celebrity, Mike White from the School of Rock. Let's just say that we ate really well during Susan's visit =D
